Virtual Accessibility for Parents

Virtual Accessibility for Parents
Posted on 11/02/2022

Virtual technology has made training, meetings, and family wellness sessions more assessable to Head Start parents.  Head Start Parents can now go online to register and attend GED, ESL, CDL, and CDA classes, Fatherhood sessions, Parent Policy meetings, and many other resources offered through the Head Start Family Partnership and Leadership program (FPL).

While the option for traditional in-person classes remains at Head Start’s three Family Development Centers, virtual alternatives enable parents who have transportation challenges or mobile or remote employment to participate in these valuable opportunities from wherever they are.

The FPL program eliminated barriers to virtual attendance by collaborating with community partners to provide virtual translation and accessibility for the hearing and visually impaired, conducting classes in English and Spanish, and delivering curriculum and technology such as tablets, laptops, and Wi-Fi hotspots.
