ESC19 Head Start is a federally funded early childhood development and preschool program that serves children and their families in El Paso and Hudspeth counties. The program will be enrolling children for the 2020-2021 school year beginning in February.

Head Start preschool services are offered to three and four-year-old children. Early Head Start services are available for pregnant women and children from birth to 36 months.

“We want to ensure children and families have the means and opportunity to thrive,” said Susana Acevedo, Enrollment and Recruitment Program Manager. “Our program offers services designed to increase the school readiness and healthy development of our youngest learners while providing parents opportunities to support their children’s learning.”

The Head Start program educates and supports young children and their families in all aspects of child development, including social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth. Head Start also recognizes the role parents play in the development of their children. There are 31 Head Start and Early Head Start centers serving more than 4,000 children.

“Children benefit greatly from quality early learning experiences, it’s these experiences that prepare them for kindergarten and gives them the skills to be successful in school,” said Acevedo. “Our focus is the whole child, from their health and nutrition to their family environment; all these components contribute to their learning.”
