ESC19 Head Start is proud to celebrate Black History Month by recognizing the culture, achievements, and impact of Black Americans. Throughout February, Head Start classrooms will feature fun and meaningful activities inspired by Black artists, authors and leaders who shaped history. These experiences help Head Start children develop pride, awareness, and a love for learning about other cultures.
Since its start in 1965, civil rights leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Marian Wright Edelman supported the Head Start program as a way to give every child a strong start in life and equal opportunities in education. Today, Head Start continues to uplift Black families by providing quality early education, family resources, and a foundation for success.
Head Start remains committed to diversity, inclusion, and celebrating the unique backgrounds of our children and families. By honoring Black history, the program inspires our young learners with lessons of unity, resilience, and dreaming big—because every child deserves the opportunity to shine!
