ESC19 Head Start is excited to announce a new series of workshops designed specifically for fathers. Kicking off on October 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the ESC19 Head Start Multi-Purpose Center, the series aims to empower dads with tools, guidance, and practical strategies to strengthen their connection with their children.
"We know that fathers play a crucial role in a child's development," says Cynthia Vasquez, ESC19 Head Start Family Partnership and Leadership (FPL) Program Manager. "This series is all about giving dads the tools, support, and confidence to be active, engaged parents."
The El Paso Center for Children's Fatherhood Educating Fathers for Empowering Children Tomorrow (EFFECT) Program will lead the workshop sessions. EFFECT fatherhood specialists will bring their expertise and real-world strategies to make each session engaging, practical, and meaningful.
"The Fatherhood Program got involved with the ESC19 Head Start Program after being approached by Cynthia Vasquez," said Jose Alamillo, Fatherhood EFFECT Program Manager with the El Paso Center for Children. "We feel proud and flattered to be partnering with the Region 19 Head Start Program in providing these services to the fathers and father figures in our community. We believe that fathers make a lasting impact in the development of their children, and we hope to be a small part of that development."
The FPL service area will offer eight fatherhood sessions throughout the year. Each session focuses on connection and everyday engagement, giving dads actionable tips to strengthen their bond with their children, even on the busiest days. "Fathers will learn to understand their child's emotions by recognizing their emotional needs," Alamillo explained. "They'll also gain tools to help their children manage feelings in healthy ways, build confidence, and feel safe and secure. Just as importantly, dads will be encouraged by other fathers as we build a community of men who are engaged and committed to their families."
The series also creates a space specifically for fathers to share experiences and learn from one another. "Fathers often don't have as many opportunities to connect in a supportive environment," Vasquez said. "These workshop sessions create a space where dads can learn, share, and grow together."
Dads interested in participating are encouraged to join the October 28 session and continue engaging with Head Start through events, volunteer opportunities, and ongoing resources. "If you want to strengthen your bond with your child and meet other dads doing the same, this is the place to be," Vasquez emphasized.
