Head Start PreK children across El Paso and Hudspeth counties experienced the 2024 Solar Eclipse from the safety of their Head Start classrooms by engaging in arts and crafts activities conducive to the cosmic event occurring directly above their Head Start centers.
On Monday, April 8, 2024, El Paso and many parts of Texas and North America witnessed a total or partial solar eclipse - a rare moment in astronomical history in which the moon momentarily obscures the sun.
The historical event provided a visceral opportunity for Head Start teachers to educate young learners in the science of the sun and moon and the dynamic interactions that occur in a solar eclipse.
The next total solar eclipse over North America will occur in 2044.
