Preschool children make the transition into kindergarten more successfully when their families and schools prepare together. Also, when their preschool and kindergarten teachers connect through coordinated transition efforts, children maintain and maximize the gains they made in the preschool and elementary programs.
The Preschool Education Development & Transition (PSEDT) service area supports Head Start teachers in developing the school readiness of children by providing on-site coaching and support to teachers in the areas of instructional practices, curriculum, and assessments for children 3-5 years of age.
PSEDT provides in-service training for Head Start teachers, and partners with local early childhood educators in the eleven school districts, and community agencies through the Winter Wonderland Joint Transition Training Conference, as part of support and readiness activities for children transitioning from Head Start to elementary school.
